The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, paid a familiarisation visit and tour of inspection to the Ughelli Area Command, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening security and fostering community collaboration across the state.

The Commissioner was received by the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Olasunkanmi Musilu, alongside senior officers, security agencies, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and members of the public.

In his welcome address, ACP Musilu expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing the CP as “amiable, hardworking and distinguished.” He noted that the Ughelli Area Command, located in Delta Central Senatorial District and predominantly inhabited by the Urhobo people, covers Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Ethiope East Local Government Areas.

He listed the six divisions under the command to include ‘A’ Division Ughelli, ‘B’ Division Agbarha-Otor, Orogun Division, Ofuoma Division, Otu-Jeremi Division, and Isiokolo Division.

The Area Commander highlighted notable achievements recorded in crime fighting since assuming office, while also drawing attention to critical challenges affecting operations. These include inadequate patrol vehicles, shortage of manpower, and insufficient working tools.

He further disclosed that some remote communities have called for the establishment of additional police outposts to address security gaps and curb criminal activities in underserved areas.

ACP Musilu commended the contributions of vigilante groups, quasi-security outfits, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and community leaders for their continued support, stressing that their collaboration has been instrumental in maintaining relative peace within the command.

He assured the Commissioner of the unflinching commitment of officers and men of the command to uphold justice, protect human dignity, and sustain professionalism in line with the vision of the Nigeria Police Force.

Earlier in the day, CP Adesola had paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of the great Ughelli Kingdom, HRM, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III Jp at his palace, where he sought traditional support for policing efforts in the area.

Addressing a large gathering at the Area Command, the Commissioner emphasized the need for stronger public cooperation in the fight against crime. He cautioned against shielding or influencing investigations involving criminal elements, noting that such actions undermine justice and embolden offenders.

He stressed that many criminal activities persist due to community complicity, particularly through the purchase of stolen goods and interference in police processes.

The CP urged parents and guardians to instill discipline and moral values in their children, recounting personal experiences from his upbringing to illustrate the importance of accountability and integrity in shaping responsible citizens.

According to him, “without peace, no society can develop,” adding that the police cannot succeed without the active support of the public.

CP Adesola assured residents of his resolve to enhance security and ensure that citizens can sleep without fear, while also acknowledging the efforts of his predecessor in laying a solid foundation for improved policing in the state.

He reiterated that the command would continue to prioritize professionalism, fairness, and respect for human rights in its operations.

The event was attended by top security officials, including representatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), community leaders, vigilante groups, and chairmen of Ughelli South and Ethiope East Local Government Areas, among other dignitaries.
